Choosing the right sailing equipment for your child: the key to a successful outing!

The key to a successful sailing trip is often played out even before the start, when choosing the right equipment. Indeed, the weather conditions can be hostile and an efficient protection will be essential, even more so for my youngest ones. The most effective method found to date is the three-layer rule.

How to properly equip your child to go to sea

The three-layer rule is a simple method that consists of layering several complementary layers for optimal protection. Each layer has a specific role that it must respect. The first layer is the child's under-layerThe first layer is the skin, which must be comfortable. To ensure this, we advise you to opt for materials such as merino wool (for cold weather) or polyester (lighter and more breathable). The second layer is the child fleeceThe purpose of this layer is to ensure the best possible thermal comfort. The weight (the density of the fleece) is to be looked at in priority. Finally the third layer: the child's watch jacket. This last layer must allow your child to stay dry during possible showers, the main criterion to check is the waterproofness, which is measured in millimeters. For effective protection, we recommend a waterproofness of at least 10,000 mm.
