Dry suits

The dry suit, or drysuit

A dry suit, or drysuit, is a suit designed to keep you warm and dry when sailing in cold weather. They are waterproof and breathable. This type of suit is generally used for light sailing activities, such as kayaking, kite surfing, windsurfing, jet-skiing... up to sailing in extreme conditions.

Be careful, these are not wetsuits intended for diving. A wetsuit for diving does not have the same attributes as a dry suit for sailing. We offer on our website such suits.

They are waterproof because of their technical textile with a minimum waterproof level of 10 000 mm. These wetsuits are not made of neoprene like most diving or nautical wetsuits. They do not allow water to pass through them, unlike a neoprene suit, and prevent any water infiltration.

A neoprene suit will stay wet during the activity while keeping you warm, within a certain temperature limit. A dry suit will keep you completely dry so that you can practice light sailing in areas or temperatures that a wetsuit would not allow. In addition, a dry suit will have a much longer life span than a neoprene suit.

However, these dry suits do not have only advantages. These suits are generally much more expensive than a simple neoprene suit, even if this is justified by the technical quality and the life span of the product. A dry suit is a much heavier suit and can be cumbersome depending on your practice.

Which dry suit should I choose ?

It is important for this type of product to prioritize a garment that perfectly matches your size, rather than your aesthetic tastes or a given price. Indeed, you know when you buy a dry suit that this product is an investment that will accompany you for many years. You should therefore not neglect the size of this drysuit, whether it is the sleeves and latex sleeves or the overall size of the suit.

As the most sold model, for men as for women, we propose you the Drysuit Regatta Magic Marine. It is suitable for sport sailing, light sailing, kayaking or jet-skiing. Its 5,000mm waterproofing will keep you dry and offer very good protection against moisture. It can be combined with the Magic Marine fleece suit for more comfort if you are sailing in cold waters.

The Gill dry suit is an equivalent product to the Dry Suit mentioned above, but has a 4-layer overlay so you don't have to add layers yourself by wearing two extra layers underneath. It is not suitable for diving, but will do very well for your light sailing activities. It is a mixed wetsuit, you will have to refer to the men's size guide which is also adapted for a woman's size.

These two products are therefore quite accessible and will be useful for light sailing for example. The following wetsuits are more technical and rather high-end for more advanced and demanding activities.

The first one is the MPX Gore-Tex Dry suit Musto. It will allow you to practice your nautical activities in warmth and dryness in the worst conditions. Its Gore-Tex membrane offers a waterproofness of 28 000 mm, allowing to resist to very extreme conditions. This men's and women's suit will keep you totally dry, especially when paired with a good quality watch jacket. Available in many sizes (with a detailed size guide), the price of this suit is totally coherent for such a technical suit.

To sail on the high seas, opt for the Aegir Ocean dry suit Helly Hansen. With its Helly Tech 5-layer waterproof, breathable and windproof fabric similar to Gore-Tex, this wetsuit will accompany you on your trips to the open sea. Its effectiveness has been tested by professionals in the Volvo Ocean Race. You will surely find your size for this mixed wetsuit for men and women thanks to its declination in 8 different sizes. It is perfect to be worn in winter and has a hood.

The best performing drysuit we offer is the Musto HPX Ocean DrySuit. It is a wetsuit designed with 3 layers of gore-tex membrane that will allow you to survive for 2 to 3 hours in water at 5°C. It offers an extremely waterproof protection for use in extreme conditions. It is nevertheless very breathable and resistant. If you want to go on the high seas in the coldest areas of the world, this dry suit is made for you. Its high price is well worth its technicality and you will benefit from free delivery on this wetsuit in stock.
