What is the purpose of watch overalls?

Dungarees are your first line of protection against the elements. The first two criteria that a pair of overalls must meet arewaterproofing and wind protection. Being directly exposed to the elements, neither water nor wind can get through. In low-temperature conditions, dungarees won't protect you from the cold, so you'll need to supplement your outfit with a technical under-layer to ensure your thermal comfort.

How to choose the right overalls

However, not all watch dungarees are created equal, and you'll need to make a choice to find the model best suited to your sailing style. If you're a coastal sailor, average waterproofness will suffice. Indeed, you should avoid extreme conditions and torrential rain. If you're venturing offshore in harsh conditions, we recommend a waterproof level of at least 15,000 mm, as well as a good level of breathability to limit perspiration during high-intensity maneuvers. It's also very important to check the level of breathability of your watch overalls if you're planning to go racing. Maneuvers are always more intense, and a dungaree with better moisture management will be most welcome! Over and above these criteria, you'll also need to pay attention to certain specific features, such as reflective details (essential for sailing in low-light conditions), or reinforcements on the knees or buttocks (particularly useful for regattas).
